The Medical Assisting curriculum prepares multi-skilled health care professionals qualified to perform administrative, clinical, and laboratory procedures.

Course work includes instruction in scheduling appointments, coding, and processing insurance accounts, billing, collections, medical transcription, computer operations; assisting with examinations/treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, supervised medication administration; and ethical/legal issues associated with patient care.

BEFORE applying to the medical assisting program, a student must complete all developmental courses including reading, English and math, and must satisfy the math prerequisite by completing one of the following:

  • Qualifying placement scores within the last 5 years or
  • MAT 070 with a grade of “C” or higher within last 5 years or
  • DMA 010-050 with a grade of “P” within the last 5 years or
  • MAT 115, MAT 121, MAT 122, MAT 141, MAT 143, MAT 151, MAT 152, MAT 161, MAT 171, or MAT 263 course or an approved college algebra math with a grade of “C” or higher

Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) accredited programs are required to meet outcomes’ benchmarks annually.
