Course Inquiry

Human Resources Development (HRD) courses can help adults enhance their resume, market themselves, and explore a new career. HRD courses provide employability skills training and assistance to adults who are trying to find employment, transitioning back into the workforce, or working to redefine their professional niche in today’s global market.

HRD courses are FREE to those who meet any one of the following four criteria:

  • You are currently unemployed
  • You have received notification of a pending layoff
  • You are working and eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit
  • You are working and earn wages at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines

National Career Readiness Certification

The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is an essential tool and marketable credential that offers individuals and employers the opportunity to certify essential workplace skills. Upon successful completion, individuals receive Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificates according to their skill levels. With the National Career Readiness Certificate, individuals prove they have the skills needed to successfully enter the workforce. Testing is open to adults who wish to pursue National Career Readiness Certification.

All NCRC testing is by appointment only.

Career Success for Job Seekers (HRD Courses)

Learn the skills needed to be a better candidate for employment at your local Department of Social Services (DSS)! The NC Fast certificate is a preferred qualification for the DSS income maintenance caseworker jobs available in Lenoir and surrounding counties.

The NC FAST Phase I: DSS Caseworker course covers skills and strategies designed to provide employability skills and training for a career as an Income Maintenance Caseworker within the Division of Social Services (DSS).

This course is a prerequisite for the Income Maintenance Caseworker Phase ll course.

The NC FAST Phase II: DSS Caseworker course is designed to cover a variety of skills associated with the Income Maintenance Caseworker role to determine service eligibility. Specific focus will include proficiency in the utilization of the NCFAST application.

Students must pass Phase I and have earned a National Career Ready Certification before registering for Phase II.

Working Smart: Soft Skills for Workplace Success, a soft skills training program, teaches students and job seekers the skills that employers know to be crucial for job success. The 28-hour course focuses on communication skills, problem-solving skills, time management, accountability, and more.

Basic Workplace Computer Skills

Learn basic computer skills that include word processing, keyboarding, email, internet search, social media, career and occupational research. The focus of this class involves computer usages that relate to education, training, and employment skills for employment and career enhancement.

Employability Skills Lab

Receive assistance with resumes, cover letters, job applications, interviewing techniques, career exploration, job search assistance, and more. Includes help with basic computer skills, the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), and various other career assessments.

MAIN CAMPUS Lab hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.*
LA GRANGE Lab hours are Monday – Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
GREENE COUNTY Lab hours are Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
JONES COUNTY Lab hours are Monday – Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
