Program Intro

The Medical Office Administration, AAS–A25310B curriculum prepares individuals for employment in medical and other healthcare-related offices. Students in the Medical Office Administration, AAS program can select one of two tracks: General Medical Office Administration or Medical Billing and Coding Curriculum Preview.

General Medical Office Administration
Curriculum Preview

Course work in the Medical Office Administration – General Medical Office track will include medical terminology; information systems; office management; office finance; healthcare customer relations; medical insurance and billing; electronic health records; records management; legal and ethical issues; document formatting and word processing. Students will learn administrative and support functions and develop skills applicable in medical environments.

    This course introduces the concepts and functions of software that meet the changing needs of the community.
  • OST 148 – Med Ins & Billing
    This course introduces the fundamentals of medical coding, billing, and insurance.

    This course is designed to introduce the office professional to the concepts of social media.
  • OST 280 – Electronic Health Records
    This course focuses on the use of electronic health records in medical documentation and patient management.

    This course is designed to introduce word processing concepts and applications.
  • OST 149 – Medical Legal Issues
    This course introduces the complex legal, moral, and ethical issues involved in providing healthcare services.

    This course introduces basic bookkeeping concepts.
  • OST 263 – Healthcare Customer Relations
    This course provides the soft skills necessary for effective communication and maintaining customer satisfaction in healthcare.

    This course covers the keypad touch method using the electronic calculator (10-key) and mathematical functions used in office applications.

    This course covers the personal competencies and qualities needed to project a professional image in the office.

Medical Billing and Coding
Curriculum Preview

Course work in the Medical Office Administration – Medical Billing and Coding track will include medical insurance, billing and coding; virtual office; medical terminology; information systems; office management; healthcare customer relations; electronic health records; records management; legal and ethical issues; document formatting and word processing. Students will learn administrative and support functions and develop skills applicable in medical environments.

  • OST 141 – Med Office Terms I
    This course is a continuation of OST 141 and continues the study, using a language-structure approach, of medical office terminology and vocabulary.
  • OST 148 – Med Ins & Billing
    This course introduces the fundamentals of medical coding, billing, and insurance.

    This course introduces the complex legal, moral, and ethical issues involved in providing healthcare services.
  • OST 164 – Office Editing
    This course provides a comprehensive study of editing skills needed in the workplace.

    This course is designed to provide skills needed to increase speed, improve accuracy, and format documents.

    This course covers diagnostic coding as it applies to long-term facilities and home care.
