Program Intro

The Agriculture Education, AAS–A15330 program that is designed to provide students with agriculture and education foundation courses. Course work focuses on the foundational aspects of agriculture and education theory. Students will be introduced to classroom theory and management as well as soil, plant, and animal science. This curriculum will provide students with the knowledge and skills to be eligible to become extension agents, farm management specialists, 4-H specialists, crop service representatives, agri-tourism tour guides or work in agriculture sales, or environmental community education programs.

SAMPLE COURSES

  • AGR 139 – Intro to Sustainable Ag
    This course will provide students with a clear perspective on the principles, history, and practices of sustainable agriculture in our local and global communities.
  • MAT 171 – Precalculus Algebra
    This course is designed to develop topics that are fundamental to the study of Calculus.

SAMPLE COURSES:

  • ANS 110 – Animal Science
    This course introduces the livestock industry. Topics include nutrition, reproduction, production practices, diseases, meat processing, sustainable livestock production, and marketing.
  • ENG 111 – Writing and Inquiry
    This course is designed to develop the ability to produce clear writing in a variety of genres and formats using a recursive process.

SAMPLE COURSES:

  • AGR 121 – Biological Pest Mgmt
    This course will emphasize the building and maintaining of healthy soil, plant, and insect biological cycles as the key to pest and disease management.
  • AGR 214 – Agricultural Marketing
    This course covers basic marketing principles for agricultural products.

SAMPLE COURSES:

  • EDU 216 – Foundations of Education
    This course introduces the examination of the American educational systems and the teaching profession. Topics include the historical and philosophical influences on education, various perspectives on educational issues, and experiences in birth through grade 12 classrooms.
  • WBL 111 – Work-Based Learning
    This course provides a work-based learning experience with a college-approved employer in an area related to the student’s program of study. Emphasis is placed on integrating classroom learning with related work experience.

  • AGR 212 – Farm Business Management
    This course introduces budgeting, farm analysis, production costs, business organizations, and general management principles.
  • ANS 115 – Animal Feeds and Nutrition
    This course covers the fundamentals of animal feeding and nutrition.
